CAF Women's Champions League - CECAFA qualifiers: CBE FC thrash FAD FC

Ethiopian side CBE FC thrashed Djibouti's FAD FC 8-0 in the CAF Women's Champions League CECAFA qualifiers on Tuesday.

The dominant display from CBE, who beat Burundi's Buja Queens 2-1 in their opener, saw them control proceedings from start to finish at FUFA Technical Center in Njeru, Uganda.

FAD's defence, marshalled by captain Yousra Mohamed Awad, kept them at bay for the first 30 minutes before Senaf Wakuma Demise broke the deadlock.

CBE increased the tempo with Argash Kalsa Tadesse making it 2-0 in the 34th minute. Nardos Getnet Mekonnen and Loza Abera added two more before halftime to give CBE a commanding 4-0 lead.

Despite second half changes from FAD coach Mohamed Abdourahman Mahamoud, CBE continued to impose themselves. Birra Etsegenet Bizuneh and Demise with her second stretched the lead to 6-0.

Late substitute Ariet Odong Ojho bagged a brace to complete the 8-0 rout.

"We need to keep working hard ahead of our tricky match against Kampala Queens," said delighted CBE coach Birhanu Gizaw Heye.

Earlier, Kampala Queens suffered a shock 2-1 home loss to Buja Queens of Burundi.

Buja captain Asha Djafari nullified Kampala's danger-woman Fazila Ikwaput as Kenyan international Topister Situma scored both goals for the visitors.

Elizabeth Nakigozi pulled one back late for Kampala but it only proved a consolation.

CBE top Group A with six points, with Buja and Kampala on three points each.

The qualifiers continue on Wednesday as Tanzania's JKT Queens meet Zanzibar's New Generation FC, while Rwanda's AS Kigali Women face Kenyan champions Vihiga Queens.
