CAF Women's Champions League - WAFU A: Determine Girls bounce back as AS Mande take control

Published:

The second matchday of the WAFU A qualifiers for the 2024 CAF Women's Champions League were played in Sierra Leone on Saturday.

Making a strong comeback to the competition, the Determine Girls, zonal champions in 2022, secured a 2-1 victory against Red Scorpions.

The Liberian side's win was powered by the clinical finishing of Mbassey Darboe and Bintou Sylla.

This marks an excellent start for Patience J. Gwah's team, who have now earned their first points of the tournament.

The defeat, however, leaves Red Scorpions at the bottom of the table, having lost both their matches so far.

In the day's other fixture, defending zonal champions AS Mandé demonstrated their title credentials with a convincing 2-0 win over Aigles de la Médina.

This victory propelled the Malian team to the top of the standings.

AS Mandé's strong performance suggests they are keen to defend their title, while the Determine Girls' resurgence adds an intriguing dimension to the tournament.

The results reflect the competitive nature of the game in WAFU A, with teams vying for a coveted spot in the CAF Women's Champions League.
