Commercial Bank of Ethiopia, twice runners-up in the CECAFA qualifying tournament for the CAF Women's Champions League, survived a second-half onslaught to beat Rayon Sports of Rwanda 3-2 in the opening match of this year's competition at Abebe Bikila Stadium in Addis Ababa on Saturday.

Despite leading 3-0 by the 50th minute thanks to a brace by Aregash Kalsa, the home team saw their advantage shrink during the second half.

The Rwandan side, more clinical in front of goal, managed to score twice, but it wasn't enough to secure a win.

Positioned well on the left flank, Senaf Wakuma embarked on a solo run that she capped off with a stunning left-footed strike.

The Ethiopian star was the first to shine in the match before passing the spotlight to her teammate Aregash Kalsa, who scored twice late in the first half.

The hosts entered the locker room brimming with confidence. While many expected a goal fest from CBE, spectators at Addis Ababa Stadium witnessed a resurgence from Rayon Sports.

In the 72nd minute, Jeannette Ukwinkunda narrowed the gap before Jeanine Mukandayisenga reignited hopes for Rayon Sports.

Aware that they were just one goal away from earning a point, the Rwandans launched a series of relentless attacks, but to no avail. The match ended 3-2, securing victory for Commercial Bank of Ethiopia.
