COSAFA Women's Champions League qualifier: Ascent Academy thrills home fans

Mozambique's União Desportiva de Lichinga faced a tough challenge against Gaborone United on Friday as they kicked off their campaign in the COSAFA zone qualifiers for the CAF Women's Champions League.

Both teams walked away with a point each after a hard-fought 0-0 draw.

In the other Group B match, Ascent Academy put on a show for their home crowd, defeating the Young Buffaloes 2-1.

The victory places the Malawian side at the top of their group.

It was crucial for fans to arrive early at Mpira Stadium, as Faith Chinzimu scored the opening goal for the home side just two minutes into the match.

Ten minutes later, Young Buffaloes' captain Tenanile Ngcamphalala equalized.

Just before halftime, Ascent Academy regained the lead with a goal from Alephar Chimbeta, who capitalized on a defensive error by the opponents.
