Everything you need to know for the 2024 CAF Women's Champions League final between AS FAR and TP Mazembe

AS FAR are the second team after Mamelodi Sundowns (3) to make multiple appearances in the final, after 2022 this is their second finals appearances.
TP Mazembe are making their first appearance in the final and are the fifth different team to reach the final, joining the likes of Hasacaas Ladies, Mamelodi Sundowns, AS FAR and SC Casablanca as teams who have been to the final.
This is the second meeting between the teams they previously clashed in the group stages of the current edition, AS FAR winning 3-1 on the 12th November in the teams second games in Group A.
During their clash earlier in the competition in the group stages, a Doha El Madani goal and a Sanaa Mssoudy brace in the space of six minutes in the 50th, 52nd and 58th minutes turned tie after Elena Obono had given Mazembe an 11th minute lead.
This is AS FAR’s fourth game against a team from Central Africa, they have won all three previous meetings.
Previously against teams from the UNIFAC region AS FAR won a third place game against Equatorial Guinean side Malabo Kings 3-1 in 2021, they defeated another team from Equatorial Guinea Hurucanes 1-0 in the 2023 group stages. While at the current finals they overcame Mazembe 3-1.
This is AS FAR’s second game beyond the group stages against Central African opponents their other was their 3-1 win over Malabo Kings in the 2021 third place game.
Mazembe are facing North African opponents for a third time, their record reads W1 L1.
Mazembe recorded their first win at the finals over UNAF opponents defeating Egyptian side Wadi Degla 1-0 in their opening game in 2022. They lost their other game in the current edition 3-1 to AS FAR.

Final Facts -
This is the fourth final of the CAF Women’s Champions League.
Morocco joins South Africa in being only the second country to be represented in the final three times, Mamelodi Sundowns reached three finals between 2021 and 2023. While AS FAR were in the final in 2022 and SC Casablanca in 2023.
TP Mazembe are the first team from central Africa to reach the final.
With TP Mazembe in the final it means that four regions COSAFA, WAFU, UNAF and UNIFAC will have had representation in the final.
All three previous finals have been decided in open play in 90 minutes.
In the first final in 2021 Mamelodi Sundowns defeated Ghanaian club Hasacaas Ladies of Ghana 2-0 with goals from Chuene Morifi and Andisiwe Mgcoyi.
AS FAR won the second final defeating Mamelodi Sundowns in Rabat to win the 2022 edition, Fatima Tagnaout opened the scoring in the 15th minute while Ibtissam Jraidi netted a second half hattrick.
Sundowns won the last final in 2023 defeating SC Casablanca 3-0, Refilwe Tholekele scored a brace and in between Boitumelo Rabale scored for Sundowns.
The three previous finals have produced 9 goals at three goals a game, in all three previous finals only the winning team has managed to score. We are yet to have a final in which both teams have scored.
This is the second final in a row and overall to see two teams meet who faced off in the group stages, in 2022 Mamelodi Sundowns defeated SC Casablanca 1-0 and 3-0 respectively in the group stage and final.
Ibtissam Jraidi for AS FAR in 2022 remains the only player to have scored a hattrick in the final.
AS FAR have been the host team in both editions when they have reached the final, they were also hosts in 2022.
AS FAR’s 4-0 win over Sundowns in the 2022 final is the biggest win by a team in the final.
Both teams have scored 10 goals to reach the final, FAR have scored their goals with just 18 shots on target while Mazembe have had 30 shots on target the most of any team.
AS FAR have a shot conversion rate of 32.26% the best of any of the four Semi-finalists, while TP Mazembe have a shot conversion rate of 14.49%.
Thus far AS FAR have won 49 tackles with a tackles success rate of 59.80%, while TP Mazembe have won 74 tackles with a tackles success rate of 67.30%.
No team has won as many duels as TP Mazembe has won (249), while AS FAR have won 204.
AS FAR have completed 1231 passes and have a passing accuracy of 76.08%, while TP Mazembe have completed 664 with a passing accuracy of 55.29%.
Neither of these teams have ever been involved in a penalty shoot-out at the finals, only two games have been decided on spot kicks, Mamelodi Sundowns defeated Malabo Kings in 2021 after the game ended 0-0 and in 2023 a 2-2 draw between SC Casablanca and Ampem Darkoa saw the Moroccans win the shoot-out both games were semi-final clashes.
AS FAR -
AS FAR are competing in their second final along with their 4-0 triumph over Sundowns in 2022.
AS FAR are the second team to reach multiple finals, along with Mamelodi Sundowns who have been to three finals.
With AS FAR reaching the finals it means that they are the only team who would have finished in the top three in all four editions of the finals.
With AS FAR in the final it will be third successive final in which a Moroccan club will be participating, in 2023 SC Casablanca reached the final losing to Sundowns. While AS FAR were also in the final in 2022.
AS FAR have never previously been involved in a penalty shoot-out at the finals. All of their previous seven games in the knockout rounds have been decided in open play.
AS FAR are presently on a five game winning streak they won their third place play-off in 2023 and all four games at the current finals.
Victory for AS FAR will see them win six games in a row for the second time, they won their third place play off game in 2021 and then all five games in 2022. The run was ended with a loss in their opening game in 2023.
Victory for AS FAR will see them win all five games in the same finals for a second time along with 2022, Sundowns also won all of their five games in 2023.
AS FAR have scored 10 goals at the current finals their joint most highest at a single edition, they also score 10 on their way to lifting the title in 2022.
AS FAR goalkeeper Khadija Er- Rmichi will feature in her 20th game at the finals, no player has played in more games than she has (19).
Er-Rmichi has made 12 saves at the tournament thus far in her four appearances, the second most saves by any goalkeeper who has played at least two games.
Er- Rmichi has kept 11 clean-sheets at the finals in 19 appearances no player has kept more.
Er-Rmichi remains the only player to have featured in everyone of AS FAR’s games in the tournament thus far.
Of AS FAR’s current squad eight players were part of the team that won the 2022 tournament, they are Khadija Er- Rmichi, Zineb Redouani, Ikram Benjaddi, Siham Boukhami, Nouhaila Benzina, Fatima Zahra Dahmos, Najat Badri, Aziza Rabbah and Ghizlane Chhiri.
From the 2022 final where AS FAR defeated Mamelodi Sundowns 4-0, Rabbah captained the team while Er-Rmichi was in goal, Boukhami, Redouani, Benzina, Dahmos and Chhiri started the game. While Ikram Benjaddi was an unused substitute and Najat Badri a squad member who featured in four games was not part of the squad for the final.
AS FAR’s Chaymaa Mourtaji will feature in her second final for a second different should she play, Mourtaji started the 2023 final for SC Casablanca when they were defeated by Mamelodi Sundowns.
Mourtaji will feature in her 10th game at the finals should she play, she featured in five for SC Casablanca in 2023 and four at the current finals for AS FAR.
60% of AS FAR ‘s goals six out of 10 have been scored by El Madani.
El Madani has netted six in four appearances in the tournament thus far, which is the joint best tally along with Jraidi in a single finals. Jraidi scored six goals in 2022.
Another goal will take El Madani’s tally to seven goals, which will be the most goals by a player at a single finals.
El Madani has scored in all four games at the tournament thus far, she is the first player to score in four successive games at the finals.
El Madani is the second player to score in four different games at the finals for AS FAR, Jraidi scored in four games in 2022 should she score again El Madani will be the first to score in five games in a single edition.
El Madani has scored a goal every 57.2 minutes, the best goals per minute ratio for any player at the tournament presently who has played three or more games.
El Madani has scored 6 goals with 8 shots on target, she has a shot conversion rate of 75%.
El Madani has had eight goal involvements thus far scoring six goals and making two assists.
El Madani and teammate Safa Banouk have both made two assists thus far the joint most by AS FAR players.
Eight players have started each of AS FAR’s games thus far, nine have featured in all four of their games.
Benzina, Chhiri, Er-Rmichi and Mssoudy have started and finished all four of AS FAR’s games thus far.
TP Mazembe
Are featuring in their first final.
Victory will see them become just the third team to win the title along with Mamelodi Sundowns and AS FAR.
TP Mazembe should they win will become the third team along with AS FAR and Mamelodi Sundowns to have their men’s and women’s teams with the CAF Champions League / African Club of Champions Cup and the CAF Women’s Champions League.
TP Mazembe reached the final by defeating UWC ladies 2-0 in their opening game, they then lost 3-1 to AS FAR and won 4-0 against Aigles de la Medina. In the last four they defeated Edo Queens 3-1 in extra time.
TP Mazembe’s four games have produced 14 goals thus far they have scored 10 and conceded four.
TP Mazembe are the second team to concede four or more goals en-route to the final in 2023 SC Casablanca conceded five goals en-route to the final.
TP Mazembe pair Lucho Marta and Elena Nkuandum have created eleven and ten chances respectively the most by any players at the current finals. The pair have also made two assists, the most by Mazembe players and the joint most.
Marta has four goal involvements the most by a TP Mazembe player she has scored 2 goals and made 2 assists.
TP Mazembe have won three games at the current finals in four games, at their debut appearance in 2022 they won one game and lost two matches.
TP Mazembe have had six players start all four of their games, while 12 have featured in all four of their games.
Sara Luvunga has featured in all four of TP Mazembe’s games but she has one start and has played just 81 minutes.

Merveille Kandjinga brought TP Mazembe level scoring her third goal of the current finals, the first player to score in three different games at a finals for a team for Central Africa. This was in their semi-final win over Edo Queens.
Kandjinga is now TP Mazembe’s leading goal scorer at the finals with four goals overall, she has three at the current finals and scored one in 2022.
Comfort Folorunsho scored an own goal to give TP Mazembe a 2-1 lead in their semi-final against Edo Queens, this was the first own goal of the current finals. It was also the first time that TP Mazembe were beneficiaries of an own goal.
Marlène Kasaj Yav scored Mazembe’s third goal she is the fifth different player to score for them at the current finals. No team has had more different scorers than them.
TP Mazembe had just 38.1% of the possession in their semi-final clash with Edo Queens, their second lowest possession percentage at the current finals. In their loss to AS FAR in the group stages they had just 35.6% of the possession.
