History made at the new Amadou Gon Coulibaly Stadium

Athletico Abidjan midfielder, Espérance Agbo has cemented herself into the history books of African women’s football by scoring the first goal at the newly built Amadou Gon Coulibaly Stadium on Sunday, 05 November.

In a highly entertaining opener to the tournament which concluded in a 1-1 stalemate with SC Casablanca, Agbo found the back of the net in the 37th minute in their debut of the tournament to the joy of her coach and fans in attendance.

 

But who is Espérance Agbo, the historic scorer?

The midfielder was born on 14 May, 1995 in Ivory Coast. After a stint in the Indian Championship with Gokulam Kerala FC Women, the attacking midfielder joined Athlético d'Abidjan in 2021.  

A Double national champion with the Abidjan team, the 28-year-old international is making her debut in the CAF Women’s Champions League, along with her club.
