Morocco’s Fath Union Sport make history as ambitions grow in first CAF Women’s Champions League appearance
Moroccan women’s club Fath Union Sport (FUS Rabat) wrote a new page in their history after being crowned champions of the Union of North African Football (UNAF) qualifiers on Monday, 7 September, securing qualification for the finals of the CAF Women’s Champions League 2026 in a historic achievement for the club.
FUS Rabat qualified after completing their campaign with a perfect record, recording three consecutive victories to underline their credentials as North Africa’s representatives at the continental finals and make an early statement of their ambitions for the tournament.
The Moroccan side opened their campaign with an emphatic 4-0 victory over Algeria’s CF Akbou in the first round of the qualifiers, before continuing their impressive form with a comprehensive 7-0 win against Tunisia’s Association Sportive Féminine de Sousse in their second match.
Coach Mehdi Qichouri’s players faced Egypt’s Masar FC in the final round in a decisive encounter to determine the group winners and qualifiers for the continental finals, with both teams having collected six points from their opening two matches.
FUS Rabat continued their excellent form in the final game, defeating Masar FC 3-1 to finish top of the standings with nine points.
They scored 14 goals across their three matches and conceded only once, a record that reflected the team’s strength at both ends of the pitch.
The Moroccan players played a major role in the achievement, with several FUS Rabat players also earning individual recognition for their performances.
Goalkeeper Hasnaa Ouhatti was named Best Goalkeeper of the tournament in recognition of her outstanding displays throughout the qualifiers. She made a number of important saves and kept clean sheets in the opening two matches before conceding for the first time in the final round.
Her Togolese teammate Odette Gnintegma also excelled and was named Player of the Tournament, adding an individual honour to FUS Rabat’s collective achievement.
FUS Rabat player Salma Boukirch said after the final match against Masar: “We came to this tournament with the objective of collecting all the points and winning all three matches in order to qualify for the CAF Women’s Champions League.
“Thanks to the fighting spirit, mental strength and tactical quality of our players, I hope we can go as far as possible in the CAF Women’s Champions League.”
FUS Rabat women’s coach Mehdi Qichouri said after securing qualification: “To finish with nine points in the UNAF tournament in FUS Rabat’s first participation is fantastic. We feel very proud and our qualification is deserved.”
Qualification carries special significance for FUS Rabat, who will compete in the CAF Women’s Champions League finals for the first time, a historic step that will give them the opportunity to test themselves against the continent’s leading women’s clubs.
Having been crowned champions of the UNAF region, FUS Rabat will undoubtedly be determined to show that their ambitions extend beyond the qualifiers.
They secured their place on the biggest stage in African women’s club football with a perfect record and will carry the hopes of their supporters as they seek to continue making history at the continental finals.
