One day to CAF Women’s Champions League Kick Off!

In less than 24-hours, the fourth edition of the CAF Women’s Champions League officially gets underway in Morocco, as eight clubs contend Africa’s most prestigious women’s football club trophy.

Excitement is at an all-time high as the north African nation prepares to stage the continental spectacle between 09 – 23 November in Casablanca and El Jadida.

Headlining the tournament is of course the tournament’s reigning champions, Mamelodi Sundowns who in addition to defending the title, are aiming at extending their record with a possible third CAF Women’s Champions League title.

It will not be an easy achievement for the South Africans who will be up against the best clubs from across the continent including tournament hosts, AS FAR who are yearning to lift the title they lost to the current champions last year.

Making their return to the tournament is DR Congo powerhouse, TP Mazembe who are looking at lifting the title for the first time in the tournament’s history. The DRC side missed out of the competition last year and are looking at making a strong statement in the Morocco edition.

Nigeria’s Edo Queens is also one of the teams to watch as they fly the Nigerian flag in Group B.

CECAFA champions, Commercial Bank of Ethiopia who stumbled in the regional finals of the CECAFA qualifiers three times have finally earned their ticket to the finals and will be looking at showcasing their abilities when they kick off their campaign against Edo Queens.

Aigles de la Medina, tipped to be one of the surprise packages aim to cause many upsets in a Group A consisting of hosts AS FAR, Mazembe and fellow debutants, University of the Western Cape who are equally looking at impressive on debut.

Egyptian side FC Masar will be putting their academy investments to the test when they take on the best on the continent. The Egyptians have invested heavily into the women’s game and this will be showcased over the next few weeks in Morocco.

This edition will also be an opportunity for young talents to emerge, with clubs committing to giving playing time to promising players.

The individual performances of talents like Refilwe Tholakele, who shone in the previous edition will also be eagerly anticipated by fans.
