Raissa Nnanga (Lekié FF): “We want to show what Cameroon is capable of”
Having qualified for the 2026 CAF Women’s Champions League after winning the UNIFAC qualifying tournament, Lekié Football Filles are setting their sights high. Their captain, Raissa Nnanga, is determined to go far in the competition and proudly represent Cameroon.
Lekié Football Filles are not content to stop there. After winning the UNIFAC qualifying tournament in Yaoundé, the Cameroonian club secured its place in the final tournament of the 2026 CAF Women’s Champions League.
“It was a wonderful victory. We were truly delighted and very happy to qualify and represent Cameroon, because it is all of Cameroon, not just Lekié,” she said, reflecting on the joy shared with Cameroonian supporters.
Building on the recent successes of women's football in the country, Lekié are determined to maintain that momentum.
“After winning the TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, it was also important for Lekié to rise to the occasion and continue bringing joy to Cameroonians by winning the UNIFAC tournament and qualifying for the final tournament of the CAF Women’s Champions League,” the captain explained.
Being fully aware that her team may not be among the favourites, Nnanga believes this could work to their advantage.
“It is true that we may be a little underrated, but that is also what will make us strong. Our objective is not to go there as victims, but to show what Cameroon is capable of on the international stage. We must start by winning our group-stage matches and, if possible, reach the final,” she stressed.
The club are also targeting a potential qualification for the FIFA Women’s Champions Cup, which the captain describes as “one of the club’s major objectives”.
To meet the challenge, Lekié will rely on the unity of their squad and the experience of their more seasoned players, including Ajara Nchout Njoya. Nnanga believes the balance between youth and experience is a valuable asset in the team's daily preparations.
“It is a great advantage to have our senior players playing and training alongside us. It is more motivating and makes us even more eager to succeed,” she said.
Far from the tension one might expect ahead of such a major competition, the captain describes a relaxed dressing room, where strong bonds between generations help build confidence.
“They are really like big sisters to us, and everything is relaxed. The atmosphere is normal, and everything is going well.”
Now, Lekié Football Filles are ready to let their football do the talking, led by a captain who is short neither on ambition nor conviction.
