Sporting Casablanca qualifies for CAF Women’s Champions League

Morocco’s Sporting Casablanca have secured a place at the upcoming CAF Women’s Champions League, Cote d’Ivoire 2023 after winning the Union of North African Football Federation region championship qualifiers.

The newly crowned champions were completely dominant at the tournament which took place at the Alexandria, Egypt between 24 and 30 August.

The Moroccans sealed their qualification in style with a 6-1 thrashing of Egypt’s Wadi Degla on the last day of the tournament in match that started well for the Egyptians, but quickly turned south as soon as the Moroccans took control of the game. 

Degla opened the scoring through Moussa Zwairato in the 11th minute with a well-worked move by the Egyptians. 

However, Casablanca wasted no time in responding and immediately found the equaliser in the 20th minute thanks to Ladoja Kokura. 

The floodgates were officially opened after that goal as Wagesa Diarra, Salma Tamar (brace), Shaima Murtaji and Ngisan Kofi all registered their names on the scoresheet to seal the victory. 

In another fixture, Algeria’s Afaq Gulizane cruised past Tunisia’s Sousse with a comfortable 5 0 at the Haras El Hodoud Stadium thanks to goals by Kulthum Odeh, Naima Ben Zayan (brace), Fawzia Daoudi and Hadda Ayad. 

The Algerian side finished second in the overall standings, with a total of 6 points, while Tunisia’s Sousse finished the tournament fourth.

The conclusion of the tournaments sees Sporting Casablanca being the second club from Morocco to go to the tournament along with title holders, AS Far. 

The CAF Women’s Champions League Cote d’Ivoire 2023 will run from 05 to 19 November.
