AS FAR 1- 2 Ampem Darkoa:
Goals: Najat Badri 15th (AS Far), Comfort Yeboah 57th and 62nd for Ampem
The first upset of the CAF Women’s Champions League was recorded on Monday as Ghana’s Ampem Darkoa stunned defending champions AS FAR of Morocco with a come-from-behind 2-1 victory at the Laurent Pokou Stadium in San Pedro.
A 15th minute opener by Najat Badri saw the defending champions, who came into the fixture as firm favourites get a nerve settling lead before the break.
However, the Ghanaian side came back stronger in the second half and levelled matters in the 57th minute thanks to a clinical strike by Comfort Yeboah.
With momentum on their side, the second goal came in the 62nd minute courtesy of another Yeboah strike who got her brace to register a historic win over the defending champions on their CAF Women’s Champions League debut.
Nana Joe Adarkwa, coach of Ampem Darkoa
"We are here to win and bring the trophy home. We are on the right track. It was determination that made the difference. During the break, we had a serious talk with the players, and they reacted well in the second half.”
Comfort Yeboah - Player of the match
"I am very happy with this victory. We gave everything to win. I say thank you to my friends (teammates) for this match and for helping me score twice. I am proud of getting this trophy of best player of the match. We are happy but there are still two matches left, we will approach them well".
