Salah-inspired Egypt seal 2026 World Cup qualification after dominant campaign

Published:

Egypt have booked their place at the 2026 FIFA World Cup after a dominant 3-0 win over Djibouti, securing top spot in Group A with a game to spare.

The result ensures the Pharaohs return to the global stage after missing out on the 2022 edition in Qatar.

It will be their fourth appearance at the World Cup, following campaigns in 1934, 1990 and 2018.

Clinical Egypt breeze through qualifying

Egypt’s qualification marks the culmination of a near-flawless campaign under coach Hossam Hassan, who has combined defensive discipline with attacking flair.

The Pharaohs have scored 19 goals in nine matches, with Mohamed Salah leading from the front with nine strikes.

Trezeguet has added five, while Zizo has chipped in with two more.

At the back, Egypt have been equally resolute — conceding only two goals and keeping seven clean sheets, thanks to the composure of veteran goalkeeper Mohamed El Shenawy.

Blend of experience and youth inspires confidence

The Egyptian squad now boasts a healthy mix of seasoned internationals and emerging talents.

Captain Salah and Trezeguet bring the experience of having featured in Russia 2018, while Omar Marmoush and Mostafa Mohamed add youthful energy and sharpness in attack.

In defence, Mohamed Abdelmonem, who anchors the backline at French club Nice, has grown into a reliable figure alongside El Shenawy, whose performances with Al Ahly in the FIFA Club World Cup 2025™ reaffirmed his stature.

Eyes on history in North America

Egypt will arrive at the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico determined to rewrite history.

Despite three previous appearances, the Pharaohs have never won a World Cup match nor advanced beyond the group stage.

However, there is growing belief that this side could change that narrative.

With a potent attack, a stable defence and a confident coach, Egypt appear well-equipped to make an impact on football’s biggest stage.

While Morocco made history by reaching the semi-finals in Qatar, many believe Egypt have the potential to be Africa’s next breakthrough story.
