CAF is seeking to recruit an experienced and high-performing executive professional to serve as Chief of Staff to the General Secretary.
About the position:
The Chief of Staff to the General Secretary Office will lead and coordinate the daily work of the General Secretary’s Office, ensuring the office runs in an efficient, professional, and well-organised manner. The role supports decision-making, follow-up, coordination, and delivery across CAF.
Reporting directly to the General Secretary, the successful candidate will be a trusted senior support figure who can manage priorities, handle sensitive matters with discretion, and help drive progress across divisions, directors, departments, Member Associations, partners, and key stakeholders. Strong judgement, organisation, and the ability to work calmly in a fast-moving environment will be essential.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee the day-to-day running of the General Secretary’s Office with strong professional standards.
- Support the General Secretary on priority matters, risks, and key decisions.
- Turn priorities into clear work plans, timelines, responsibilities, and follow-up actions.
- Track progress on Executive Committee decisions and management priorities.
- Coordinate weekly reporting, updates, briefing notes, and decision papers.
- Prepare speeches, correspondence, presentations, talking points, and sensitive communications.
- Support smooth coordination between the General Secretary and CAF divisions, departments, and regional stakeholders.
- Work closely with Directors and Heads of Department to align priorities, monitor delivery, and resolve bottlenecks.
- Maintain strong working relationships with Member Associations, FIFA, partners, public authorities, and football stakeholders.
- Identify delays, risks, gaps, or operational issues and propose practical solutions.
- Organise senior leadership meetings, management sessions, and strategic workshops.
- Monitor internal approvals, deadlines, commitments, and follow-up actions.
- Encourage teamwork and stronger cooperation across departments.
- Lead and develop the GS Office team with accountability and high standards.
- Support key improvement and reform projects managed through the General Secretary’s Office.
- Attend internal or external meetings on behalf of the office when requested.
Requirements (Profile):
We are looking for a capable and driven professional with strong judgement and a broad outlook.
- Bachelor’s degree in law, Business Administration, Management, Public Administration, International Relations, or a related field.
- Postgraduate qualification is an advantage.
- Minimum 10 years of experience in executive management, strategy, governance, chief of staff, consulting, or similar senior roles.
- At least 5 years in a leadership or senior advisory role.
- Experience working in multi-stakeholder environments requiring maturity and sound judgement.
- International experience in sport, business, government, consulting, or institutional settings is an advantage.
- Strong thinking skills combined with the ability to get things done.
- Excellent project management and follow-through.
- Strong communication, writing, and presentation skills.
- Executive presence with tact and diplomacy.
- Highly organised and able to manage several priorities at once.
- Able to handle confidential matters with discretion.
- Sound judgement across operational, governance, and commercial matters.
- Hands-on, proactive, resilient, and practical.
- Strong command of Microsoft Office (Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, Word).
- Comfortable using reporting systems, dashboards, and workflow tools.
- Willingness to travel across Africa and internationally.
