Head of Legal Affairs

Responsibilities:

Support the Director of Legal Affairs & Compliance in managing the day-to-day legal work of CAF, by handling drafting, review and coordination of legal files.

  • Support the Director of Legal Affairs & Compliance in all legal matters, ensuring timely and accurate delivery of legal services to CAF divisions. 
  • Draft, review and negotiate contracts (services, sponsorship, media, IP, consultancy, leases, IT, NDAs), in close coordination with business owners and external counsel where required. 
  • Assist in the implementation and maintenance of the contract lifecycle management system (contract database, tracking of key dates, templates, clause library). 
  • Prepare first drafts and support files for regulations and statutes (amendments, alignments with FIFA rules, internal guidelines), under the supervision of the Director. 
  • Support litigation and arbitration matters (including CAS): coordinate documents, liaise with external counsel, monitor deadlines, prepare case summaries and procedural calendars. 
  • Provide day-to-day legal support to CAF divisions (Competitions, Commercial, Finance, HR, Technical, etc.) on routine questions, escalating all sensitive or strategic issues to the Director. 
  • Assist in the implementation of compliance and governance frameworks (policies, procedures, checklists) designed by the Director of Legal Affairs & Compliance and the Governance, Risk and Compliance function. 
  • Support the secretariat of Judicial and Independent Bodies (Disciplinary, Ethics, Appeals, etc.) through drafting assistance, file preparation and minute-taking, under the coordination of the Director. 
  • Ensure that all legal documentation is properly filed, archived and easily retrievable (electronic and physical files). 
  • Carry out any other tasks assigned by the Director of Legal Affairs & Compliance to help deliver CAF’s strategic and administrative objectives.

 

Requirements (profile):

Education  

  • Master’s degree in law (commercial, corporate, international or sports law, or equivalent).

Work experience  

  • 5–8 years’ experience as a practising lawyer or in-house counsel, preferably in:  
    • an international organisation or sports governing body; or  
    • a law firm with focus on commercial, sports, arbitration or regulatory work.

Business know-how and IT skills  

  • Solid knowledge of contract law, commercial law and basic sports regulatory frameworks.  
  • Proven experience in contract drafting and negotiation (English as working language).  
  • Familiarity with dispute resolution (litigation or arbitration) is an asset.  
  • Good command of MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and ability to work with document and contract management tools.

Language skills  

  • English (fluent, written and spoken) – required.  
  • French – asset.  
  • Arabic – asset.

Other requirements  

  • Interest in football and sports governance is an asset.
