CAF attends CECAFA Ordinary General Assembly in Juba, South Sudan on Wednesday, 22 January

The Council for East and Central Africa Football Associations (CECAFA) held a successful Ordinary General Assembly (GA) in Juba, South Sudan on Wednesday, 22 January that was attended by officials from the Confédération Africaine de Football (CAF).

Eleven regional Member Associations were in attendance as CECAFA President Wallace Karia highlighted the great strides made by the region over the past 12 months.

Karia expressed his gratitude to CAF for its continued support and emphasised the commitment of Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda to host the TotalEnergies CAF African Nations Championship in August 2025 and the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations in 2027.

CAF Member Association Director Sarah Mukuna conveyed a message of support from CAF President Dr Patrice Motsepe and General Secretary Veron Mosengo-Omba, expressing appreciation for the extraordinary leadership shown by Karia. 

She highlighted the progress made in the region and reaffirmed CAF’s commitment to ensure the continued success and development of CECAFA as a Zonal Union.

The General Assembly was also attended by representatives of FIFA.

The President of the South Sudan Football Association, General Augustino Maduot, welcomed the first CECAFA General Assembly to be held in the country and thanked the Minister of Youth and Sports, Dr. Joseph Geng Akech, for his support in facilitating the organisation of the event.

Minister Dr Akech was in attendance and highlighted his country's passion for sports and the significant progress made in football. He also expressed gratitude to CECAFA for selecting South Sudan as the host for the General Assembly.

CECAFA is made up of Member Associations from Burundi, Djibouti, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan, Tanzania and Uganda.
