The Confédération Africaine de Football (“CAF”) is pleased with the Governance Compliance Committee Report on governance non-compliance or weaknesses within the CAF Secretariat.
This Committee which is chaired by Justice Petrus Damaseb, Deputy Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Namibia, made a presentation to the in-person CAF Executive Committee (“EXCO”) meeting in Rabat Morocco, and did not find any governance breaches within the CAF Secretariat but has made recommendations which will enhance and strengthen governance practices within CAF. CAF is grateful to Justice Damaseb and his Committee for their hard work and thorough Report.
CAF is also in the process of increasing by 100% its financial contributions to over 130 African Clubs participating in the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League and the TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup.
The President of CAF, Dr Patrice Motsepe said: “CAF is very pleased with the Governance Compliance Committee Report on governance non-compliance or weaknesses within the CAF Secretariat and will implement the governance recommendations that are contained in this Report. The Chairman of this Committee, Justice Damaseb will work with the globally respected firm, PricewaterhouseCoopers to ensure that CAF implements and adheres to global governance best practices. I am very happy with the processes underway to increase by 100% CAF’s financial contributions to each of the approximately 130 African Clubs that participate in the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League and the TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup. CAF contributed for the first time last year, USD 50 000 to each Club. Each Club should now receive USD 100 000. I am also pleased with the presentations that were made at the CAF in-person EXCO meeting by the shortlisted global marketing companies that have tendered to partner with CAF on the USD 1 billion financial contribution or payment to CAF over the next 8 years or the period permitted by COMESA’s Competitions Regulations. These financial resources will contribute enormously to the development and global competitiveness of African football and investment in Youth Football development and infrastructure. I was also given an assessment on the performance by African Football Clubs in the FIFA Club World Cup 2025. I am confident that African Clubs will perform even better and will be even more successful in the next FIFA Club World Cup. CAF is thankful to FIFA and President Gianni Infantino for organising an exciting and world class competition that will contribute to the global competitiveness and growth of African Clubs and Football Clubs worldwide.”
