- All of CAF’s six Zonal Unions to be present at the two-day workshop in Cairo
- Strategic workshop forms part of CAF President, Dr Patrice Motsepe’s vision of Making African Football self-sustaining and world-class
- Workshop to be anchored by four strategic pillars to improve African football governance
The Confédération Africaine de Football (CAF) will bring together the leadership and management teams of its six Zonal Unions in Cairo for the Annual Zonal Union Tactical Workshop, scheduled for 27 and 28 October 2026.
The gathering of CAF’s six Zonal Unions encompassing all of CAF’s 54 Member Associations forms part of CAF’s ongoing efforts to strengthen strategic alignment and delivery across African football.
The two-day workshop will focus on reinforcing the role of the Zonal Unions as key partners in translating CAF’s strategic priorities into practical and measurable outcomes across its 54 Member Associations, with a particular emphasis on implementation, institutional effectiveness and long-term development.
Speaking ahead of workshop, CAF Director of Member Associations, Sarah Mukuna said: “The workshop is aligned with the vision of CAF President Dr Patrice Motsepe of Making Football in CAF’s 54 Member Associations world-class and self-supporting and “continuing to uplift CAF competitions to be globally competitive.
“Strong and effective Zonal Unions are central to achieving this ambition. Through their proximity to Member Associations, the six Zones play an important role in coordinating regional delivery, identifying common development needs, supporting implementation, facilitating knowledge sharing and strengthening participation in CAF and zonal programmes and competitions.”
A key focus of the workshop will be the development of practical implementation plans for the 2027–2028 period, ensuring that CAF’s strategic priorities are translated into clear objectives, measurable targets and defined accountability.
Over the two days, participants will review the current position of their respective Zones, identify areas requiring greater focus, clarify the respective roles of CAF, the Zonal Unions and Member Associations, and establish priority actions to strengthen delivery and performance.
The CAF IMPACT programme will also feature prominently in the discussions, with participants examining how Zonal Unions can support Member Associations in achieving measurable development outcomes and identifying areas where coordinated regional interventions can add value.
The programme will be structured around four key pillars:
- Football Development
- Programmes and Projects for Capacity Building
- Administration
- Competition Management
The workshop will also provide a platform for the six Zonal Unions to exchange experiences and good practices, identify common challenges and explore joint solutions to strengthen football development and administration across the continent.
The initiative reflects CAF’s broader commitment to building stronger football institutions at every level of the African game, from CAF and its Zonal Unions to the 54 Member Associations.
