With just a few days to go before the football edition of the 13th African Games, Accra 2023 kicks off in Ghana, seven national teams in the women’s division are gearing themselves up for the highly-anticipated showdown.

Since Congo hosted the first edition of the African Games (formerly All African Games) in 1965, the competition has grown into a bigger continental multi-sport fiesta.

The 13th edition of the continental competition will take place at Accra’s Cape Coast Sports Stadium between 08 – 23 March and kicks off exactly a month after the draw was held in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire.

Hosts, Ghana and seven other countries that participated in the fourth qualifying rounds of the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup Costa Rica 2022 will participate in the competition.

Nigeria will play Morocco in the opening game while Ghana takes on Ethiopia on the first game of the following day.

Over the past years that it’s been running, it has become another symbol of Africa’s unique place in sports, particularly football.

The final of the women’s tournament will be played on March 21 at the Cape Coast Sports Stadium.
