The race towards finishing top of the table and securing a place at CAF Inter-Club competitions continues across Africa, with teams fast approaching the finish line, while others gradually collect points for what is expected to be a photo-finish in most championships.

CAFOnline takes a look at some of the action from this past weekend.

Algeria

CR Belouizdad suffered a shock 2-1 defeat to USM Khenchela on Saturday as their quest to finish second suffered a blow.

The result sees CS Constantine, who have a game in hand in a better position to finish second behind MC Alger who are well on course to clinching the title.

Both MC Alger and CS Constantine were not in action this past weekend.

Meanwhile, an appetising fixture is on the cards on Monday, 06 May as USM Alger takes on JS Kabyile at 20h00 local time.

Egypt

The busy schedule for the reigning African champions, Al Ahly sees them seven games behind schedule but still very much in contention to defend their Egyptian Premier League title.

The reigning champions played their 13th match on Saturday which they comfortably won 3-0 at home when hosting El Gouna FC. Their bitter rivals Zamalek suffered a 1-0 defeat to Smouha SC on Sunday in a result that put a slight dent in their title ambitions.

Pyramids FC, who were not in action this past weekend still top the table followed by Al Masry SC in second and ZED FC in third position.

Nigeria

There was no league action in Nigeria this past weekend, however the title race remains wide open as the league is set to continue in the coming days.

Enugu Rangers currently sit top of the table with 57 points with Enyimba hot on their heels with 55, while Remo Stars are looking at causing an upset as they hover in third position with 53 points.

South Africa

Mamelodi Sundowns wrapped up their title defence campaign in style with 5-1 victory over rivals, Kaizer Chiefs earlier in the week.

The commanding victory saw Masandawana comfortably secure a place at next year’s TotalEnergies CAF Champions League and wrap up the title chase with an impressive six games to spare.

Meanwhile the race for second place remains exciting with second placed Stellenbosch FC aiming to retain their spot ahead of third placed Orlando Pirates who will meet the league champions in a cup final after both sides secured their respective places in the final this past weekend.
