Al Ahly win their 44th Egypt League title

Egyptian giants Al Ahly officially secured their 44th Egyptian Premier League title on Thursday following a dramatic 1-0 victory over Smouha.

The Red Devils' triumph extends their record as the most successful club in both Egyptian and African football history.

The winning goal came in the 95th minute through Mohamed Magdy Afsha, sparking wild celebrations at the stadium.

This latest success further cements Al Ahly's dominance in domestic football.

The win against Smouha took their points tally to 81, opening up an unassailable 8-point lead over second-placed Pyramids FC with just two matches remaining for their closest challengers. Al Ahly still have three games left to play.

The victory marked Al Ahly's 20th consecutive win in the league, yet another record in a season filled with achievements.

Players and fans celebrated long into the night, revelling in their team's superiority both domestically and continentally.

This league title adds to Al Ahly's impressive haul for the 2023-2024 season, which includes the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League trophy. 

The domestic double underlines the Cairo club's status as a powerhouse of African football.
