CAF prepares Referees ahead of crucial TotalEnergies CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup Quarterfinals

With the upcoming knockout phase of CAF Interclub Competitions: the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League and TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup, CAF has gone an extra mile to equip referees ahead of the crucial weekends.

From Friday, 14 April 2023 until next week Tuesday 18 April 2023 CAF will hold Elite Referees’ course in Cairo. The course will have 70 participants comprising of 25 referees, 30 assistant referees, 5 video assistant referees, 5 instructors and 2 VAR technicians.

The program, which extends over five days will focus on sharpening the skills of match officials with special emphases on incidents in the penalty area, offside position, game management, tactical fouls, hand ball.

This will be coupled with more practical teaching on positioning and reading of the game, VAR sessions and training on the pitch with simulations.

CAF Elite Referees course aims to strengthen the capacity of referees on whom the integrity of the game largely depends.

CAF Head of Refereeing Desire Noumandiez Doue said "The Quarter-final phase o the Interclub Competition is very key. We have to prepare referees not just for the matches but for the season ahead. We have made progress in recent months and minimized mistakes on the field significantly. This is a rebuilding phase for CAF and we have to constantly equip the officials.”

The quarterfinals of the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League 2022-2023 will take place on 21 and 22 April for the first leg matches, with the second leg matches scheduled for 28 and 29 April. The CAF TotalEnergies Confederation Cup matches will take place on 23 and 30 April.
