Ghana women secure hard-fought win, Tanzania salvage late draw

Hosts Ghana's women's team edged past Ethiopia with a narrow 1-0 victory at the 13th edition of the African Games at the Cape Coast Stadium on Saturday.


Comfort Owusu proved to be the heroine for Ghana, netting a crucial goal in the 58th minute. 


However, Ghana's journey to victory was not without challenges as they were reduced to ten players when Abiba Issa received a red card in the 79th minute. 


Despite being a player down, Ghana displayed resilience and determination, holding on to secure their opening victory in the competition.


While Ghana celebrated a hard-fought victory despite adversity, Tanzania's late heroics ensured they earned a crucial point in their campaign. 


In group's other exciting fixture, Tanzania and Uganda battled it out in a fiercely contested encounter that ended in a 1-1 draw. 


Uganda took an early lead with Magret Kunihira finding the net in the 41st minute, putting her team ahead before the break.


However, Tanzania staged a remarkable comeback in the dying moments of the game, with Aisha Juma Mnunka delivering a late equalizer in the 89th minute. 


The late goal salvaged a valuable point for Tanzania, ensuring an evenly split result in a hard-fought contest.
