Ghana women secure top spot with draw against Uganda at African Games

Hosts Ghana battled back from a goal down to secure a 1-1 draw against Uganda in the final matches of Group A in the women's football competition at the 13th edition of the African Games.

With both teams vying for a spot in the semi-finals, it was a closely contested encounter that saw Ghana ultimately emerge as group winners.

Uganda took an early lead in the 10th minute when Magret Kunihira found the back of the net with a well-taken finish, putting her side ahead.

However, Ghana responded positively, pressing forward in search of an equalizer.

Their efforts paid off in the 37th minute when Mukarama Abdulai capitalized on some poor marking to level the score, much to the delight of the home crowd.

Despite both teams pushing for a winner in the second half, neither could find the breakthrough, and the match ended in a hard-fought draw.

The result was enough to see Ghana finish at the top of Group A with seven points, securing their place in the semi-finals of the competition.

Uganda, meanwhile, settled for second place in the group after a valiant display.

Ethiopia and Tanzania Share Spoils in Group A Clash

In another Group A encounter at the Cape Coast Stadium, Ethiopia and Tanzania played out a thrilling 1-1 draw

Both teams looking to end their campaign on a high note and it resulted in a closely contested affair that saw honours shared at the final whistle.

Tanzania made a bright start to the game and took the lead in the 6th minute through Hasnath Ubamba's early goal.

However, Ethiopia fought back resiliently, gradually asserting themselves as the match progressed.

Their efforts paid off in the 79th minute when Aregash Tadesse fired home an equalizer, ensuring her side salvaged a point from the encounter.

Despite late drama, neither team could find a winner, and the match ended all square.

The result saw Tanzania finish third in Group A with two points, while Ethiopia ended their campaign in fourth place with one point.
