Morocco star Hakimi leads Champions League assist chart as PSG eye European glory

Paris Saint-Germain’s Achraf Hakimi has emerged as a key figure in the UEFA Champions League this season, leading the competition’s assist rankings as the French giants prepare for the knockout stages.
The Moroccan right-back, known for his attacking prowess, has provided five assists in the tournament so far, a tally he shares with Bayern Munich’s Joshua Kimmich, Barcelona’s Raphinha, and Atalanta duo Charles De Ketelaere and Davide Zappacosta.
“I have always sought to combine defensive solidity and offensive impact. I am lucky to play in a team where we have a lot of the ball and where I can fully contribute,” Hakimi said.
Beyond his assist tally, the 25-year-old has been a driving force in PSG’s attacking play. In the recent 7-0 demolition of Brest in the play-off round, he delivered a pinpoint cross to Nuno Mendes, further underlining his importance to Luis Enrique’s side.
“My goal is to create opportunities for my teammates in every match, to always be a danger on my side,” he added.

Hakimi’s statistics this season highlight his all-around contribution. In 10 Champions League appearances, he has recorded one goal, five assists, and 24 chances created. His work rate has also been exceptional, having played 880 minutes and covered over 107 kilometers in the competition.
His performances have earned high praise from PSG manager Luis Enrique.
“Achraf is essential for us, through his talent but also through his inexhaustible energy. He is a driving force in our offensive and defensive game,” the Spanish coach said.
With the FIFA Club World Cup set to take place in the United States from June 14 to July 13, 2025, Hakimi is already looking ahead to another major challenge with PSG.
“This tournament is crucial for us. We have the weapons to achieve something great. It’s a major goal for the club and for every player,” he stated.
Hakimi’s rise is part of a broader wave of African talent making an impact in European football. Stuttgart’s Guinean striker Serhou Guirassy, currently the Champions League’s top scorer with ten goals, is another example of the continent’s growing influence on the global stage.
With PSG chasing Champions League glory and eyeing success in the Club World Cup, Hakimi’s form will be crucial in determining how far the French club can go.
