“My love for my country drives me” – Kallon takes charge of Sierra Leone

Mohamed Kallon has described his appointment as Sierra Leone’s national team head coach as a duty to his homeland, vowing to lead the Leone Stars into a new era.
"I accept this job because it is for my country. It was not an easy decision; there were many factors to consider. However, here we are," Kallon said during his unveiling.
"I am honoured to serve Sierra Leone. My love for my country drives me to take on this important responsibility."
The former Inter Milan and AS Monaco striker, who captained Sierra Leone during his playing days, will now lead the national team from the sidelines as they prepare for crucial 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
His debut assignment as head coach will be against Guinea-Bissau next month, followed by a challenging fixture against African giants Egypt.
Kallon’s appointment is part of the Sierra Leone Football Association’s "Concept 2027" initiative, aimed at building a competitive national team through a long-term development strategy.
The decision to hand the managerial reins to Kallon has been met with overwhelming enthusiasm from the football community, government officials, and passionate fans, all of whom see his leadership as a pivotal moment for Sierra Leonean football.
Kallon, a UEFA Pro Licence holder, is tasked with not only improving results on the pitch but also nurturing young talent to elevate the country’s footballing standards.
His coaching philosophy, combined with his vast experience from European football, is expected to shape Sierra Leone’s approach in upcoming international competitions.
Further details regarding Kallon’s technical staff and future plans are expected to be announced soon, as the Leone Stars gear up for an ambitious new era.
