Nigeria and the Democratic Republic of Congo face each other on Sunday at the Crown Prince Moulay El Hassan Stadium in Rabat in the final of the African play-offs qualifying for the FIFA World Cup 2026.

The winner will qualify for the intercontinental play-offs in March 2026 and will keep all their chances of participating at the World Cup alive. Kick-off is scheduled for 20:00 local time (19:00 GMT).

Nigeria arrive with confidence after their spectacular 4-1 extra-time win over Gabon in the semi-finals. The DRC, for its part, validated its ticket to the final thanks to a 1-0 success against Cameroon, sealed in added time by captain Chancel Mbemba.

This duel promises to be tactical and intense. Nigeria will rely on their speed and direct play, with Victor Osimhen up front. The DRC will look to remain solid defensively and take advantage of quick counter-attacks, led by Cédric Bakambu, with Mbemba to organise the defence.

If they win on Sunday, the qualified team will play in the intercontinental play-offs in Mexico. The mini-tournament will be held from 23-31 March 2026 in Guadalajara and Monterrey, with six nations in the knockout round and only two World Cup places up for grabs.

For the loser in Rabat, their hopes of reaching the global finals will end there.

The 2026 World Cup will take place in the United States, Mexico and Canada from 11 June to 19 July 2026.
