Senegal claimed victory over Costa Rica in their FIFA Under-17 World Cup Qatar 2025 Group C clash in Al Rayyan on Thursday, while South Africa held Qatar to a draw and Morocco and Tunisia suffered defeats.

Alwaly Camara scored the only goal of the game for the Senegalese after eight minutes, and they dominated the remainder of the contest but could not find another goal.

They have four points from their first two games in the pool and are next in action on Sunday against the United Arab Emirates, with a knockout place very much in their sights.

South Africa fell behind early to Qatar, but Emile Witbooi equalised in the first half with a header as they claimed what could be a handy draw. They also have four points from their first two fixtures.

The South Africans had the lion’s share of possession, but Qatar put men behind the ball, and it finished with a point apiece.

Tunisia were narrow 1-0 losers to Argentina in Group D as they were in the contest the whole way against the South Americans but could not come up with the goal they needed to force a point.

They have a final game against Belgium on Sunday, where a draw could be enough to seal a place in the next stage.

Morocco’s Round of 32 chances are hanging by a thread after they lost 6-0 to Portugal in Group B, their second defeat in as many matches.

They will need a handsome win in their final clash against New Caledonia on Sunday to stand a chance of being one of the best third-placed teams.

The top two teams in each group automatically advance to the Round of 32, along with the eight best third-placed teams, providing plenty of opportunities for qualification.
