South Africa bring two new players into squad for Zambia friendly

South Africa have brought in two new prospects to their squad for this week’s friendly against Zambia with coach Hugo Broos sticking with the selection that won a place in the World Cup last month.

Bafana Bafana have elected to play only a single friendly in the November window, against their southern African rivals at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Gqeberha on November 15.

Into the squad come Keletso Makgalwa from Sekhukhune United and Orlando Pirates midfielder Masindi Nemtajela, who only weeks ago won a place in his club’s starting line-up.

Out goes the Mamelodi Sundowns trio of defender Malibongwe Khoza, wingback Thapelo Morena and striker Iqraam Rayners, plus 20-year-old prodigy Relebohile Mofokeng.

Morena is injured again while Khoza, Mofokeng and Rayners were forced to pull out of the October World Cup qualifiers against Zimbabwe and Rwanda because of injury.

South Africa drew with Zimbabwe in Durban but beat Rwanda 3-0 in Nelspruit to book their berth at the 2026 FIFA World Cup in Canada, Mexico and the United States.

Next month they head to the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations finals, where they finished third two years ago. They compete in Group B with Angola, Egypt and Zimbabwe again.
