Hosts Tanzania made it three wins from three matches at the CECAFA U-18 Women's Championship after defeating Zanzibar 1-0 on Sunday.

A blunder from Zanzibar goalkeeper Aisha Said allowed striker Aisha Juma Mnunka to score the only goal for Tanzania after 28 minutes.

The hosts dominated but Zanzibar defended resolutely to keep the deficit down, with keeper Husna Zuberi Mtunda saving skipper Hawa Juma's effort.

"I'm happy we've kept a good winning run with one match left against Uganda," said Tanzania coach Bakari Nyundo Shime.

The victory leaves Tanzania top on nine points after opening their campaign by beating Burundi and Ethiopia 3-0 and 2-0 respectively.

In the day's earlier game, Ethiopia registered their first win by defeating Burundi 2-0 courtesy of a brace from Emush Daniel Dandamo.

Dandamo capitalised on poor Burundi defending to score either side of half-time after Neema Nzohabonayo had a penalty saved.

The round-robin tournament concludes on 4 August with all five teams playing four matches each for developmental purposes according to CECAFA competitions director Yusuf Mossi.

"Four games for each side is good for development and gives players more exposure," Mossi stated.

Tanzania will round off the inaugural competition against Uganda on Wednesday hoping to complete a perfect campaign on home soil.
