Uganda men shock Senegal to reach semis, Nigeria edge past South Sudan

Uganda pulled off a stunning upset, defeating Senegal 1-0 in their Group B men's clash at the 13th edition of the African Games on a thrilling night of football on Monday.


The East African sealed the victory over the highly fancied West African side to seal their place in the semi-finals at the Accra Sports Stadium.


The match saw Uganda's Allan Oyirworth emerge as the hero, netting a crucial goal just before the hour mark.


The decisive goal in the 58th minute took his side to six points after beating Nigeria in their first group game, sending shockwaves through the tournament.


Despite Senegal's formidable reputation, Uganda's determined performance proved decisive, propelling them into the next stage of the competition as they will be guaranteed at least second place in the group.


With their place in the semi-finals secured, Uganda's young talents have proven themselves as a force to be reckoned with in the tournament.


Meanwhile, in another intense encounter, Nigeria secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory over South Sudan. 


The match remained deadlocked until the 80th minute when Nigeria was awarded a late penalty. 


Sadiq Isiyaka stepped up to take the spot-kick and made no mistake, converting it with precision to give Nigeria the crucial lead. 


Isiyaka's goal proved to be the difference-maker as Nigeria claimed a vital win to keep their semi-final hopes alive.
