Uganda v Togo – Mission: First victory

Uganda Cranes are appearing in CHAN for the fifth time. They sought a win against Rwanda in their opener but had to settle for a goalless draw, which their Northern Irish coach Johnny McKinstry looked to accept. But now they are aiming for victory against debutants Togo if they are to keep their second-round qualification hopes alive.
Having never qualified from the group stage before, Uganda is banking on the experience of their squad to make a difference, with players from seasonal CAF Interclub competitions campaigners KCCA and Vipers SC.
As for Togo, it is never easy to enter a competition for the first time by facing the defending champion. Yet the Hawks produced a good performance and could even have snatched a point late into the game.
The performance against Morocco motivated Togo’s Coach Jean-Paul Abalo Dosseh to look for more in the tough group. “Against Morocco we missed some clear chances. The next game is to be won. We have shown that we can do good things and we must confirm it now,” he said.
Togo faces Rwanda in their last game on January 26th in Limbe, while Uganda locks horns with Morocco in Douala in a simultaneous kickoff.
