Mozambique sting Amavubi to storm to Group F summit

Mozambique’s Mambas kicked off their journey to the 2021 Total African Cup of Nations (AFCON) with a well worked 2-0 home victory against rwanda’s Amavubi, a win that took them to the summit of Group F with three points.

The Mambas are two points ahead of Cameroon and Cape Verde who played to a goalless draw on Wednesday night.

Edson Sitoe broke the deadlock for the Mozambicans from the penalty spot in the 28th minute to give the home fans a huge reason to celebrate. However, the noise levels were raised even higher just a minute later when Stelio Ernesto slammed home the second.

Rwanda gave in a fight to get their way back into the game, but they couldn’t hit the target despite having a few decent chances.

The Amavubi will now hope to bounce back at home on Sunday when they face the Indomitable Lions in Kigali while Mozambique can pull clear in the group if they get maximum points in their away trip to the Cape Verde Islands.
