Black Queens trounce Guinea to advance in Women's Olympic Qualifiers

Ghana's Black Queens are through to the next stage of African Women's Olympic qualifying after demolishing Guinea 4-0 in the second leg in Accra to advance 7-0 on aggregate.

Evelyn Badu was the heroine with a brace, while Pricilla Adubea and substitute Fridaus Yakubu also netted as the hosts coasted to a comprehensive victory at the Accra Sports Stadium on Tuesday.

The Black Queens went ahead on 36 minutes when Badu embarked on a mazy solo run before firing an unstoppable shot into the far corner.

Adubea extended the home side's lead just after the break with a calm finish to calm the nerves of fans who were expecting more goals.

Guinea offered little in response, allowing Badu to double Ghana's advantage in the second half after pouncing on a rebound.

With a quarter-final spot sealed, Yakubu then came off the bench to add the gloss by latching onto a pinpoint pass from Adubea to make it 4-0 late on.

It completed a dominant two-legged performance from Ghana after their 3-0 first leg success in Conakry. Next up is the second round showdown with Benin in October.

Elsewhere, Benin also progressed after edging past Guinea-Bissau 5-4 on aggregate a 3-2 second-leg victory on Cotonou

Namibia pulled off a shock 2-0 aggregate victory over Equatorial Guinea after holding on for a goalless draw in Malabo.

Ethiopia thrashed Chad 10-0 over the two legs, while Uganda advanced past Rwanda 4-3 on aggregate after a narrow 1-0 away win in Kigali.

Finally, Mali held on to beat Burkina Faso 3-2 overall following a 2-2 draw in the second leg in Bamako on Tuesday night.

The victors move one step closer to qualifying for the Paris 2024 Olympics, with the next round of qualifiers taking place in October.
