Liberia women’s national team face an uphill task in the return leg of the 2022 Women's AFCON first round qualifiers following a 2-1 defeat to Senegal at home.

Goals from Mama Diop and Ewa Dihkate in the 23rd and 85th minute earned an away victory for the Lionesses against Liberia that got a 95th minute goal through Lucy Kikeh’s masterclass set piece.

Despite going down at home, Liberia head coach Robert Lartey is optimistic about his side causing an upset in Senegal. He praised his team for their performance in the game against Senegal he described as an experienced side

“We lost but all isn’t lost. We played well today and conceded through two slight errors. We’re going back to the drawing board to work on our mistakes and get ready for the return leg. We are confident we can turn it around”, Lartey told reporters after the game.

The two sides will meet in Dakar on Tuesday, October 26 in the return leg.
