WAFU A U20 Women's Cup: Senegal clip Guinea wings, Sierra Leone edge Guinea Bissau

Senegal staged a stunning late comeback to clinch a massive 3-1 victory over Guinea in a thrilling contest at Southern Arena in Bo City on Friday.

The encounter, which marked the second round of matches of the WAFU A U-20 Women's Cup of Nations, was characterized by breathtaking moments and attacking threats from both sides.

Senegal came into the second match of the four-nation competition with the huge prospect of consolidating on their opening 4-0 win over Guinea Bissau on Wednesday.

As expected, the Senegalese dominated the early proceedings but failed to find the cutting edge against the resilient Guineans and were eventually paid for their wastefulness when Fatoumata Dede Diallo handed the latter the lead in the 32nd minute.

After a slim first-half lead, Alfa Umaro Balde's side maintained their solid defense until the 72nd minute when Amanita Samba's equalizer inspired the rescue of the Terranga Lionesses.

Five minutes later, Hapsatou Diallo rose to the occasion to fire the Senegalese in front before Khadija Badio struck the back of the net in the 78th minute to guarantee the triumph.

Senegal star Fanta Sibide was named the Woman of the Match, owing to her contribution to the comeback win.

Meanwhile, Sierra Leone registered their first win of the tournament, securing a sensational 2-1 triumph over Guinea Bissau.

Smarting from a drab 1-1 draw with Guinea, Sierra Leone were keen to keep their title hopes alive, beginning with a win against Guinea Bissau, who crumbled 4-0 against the Senegalese.

After a scoreless first half, Sallay Turay broke the deadlock for the hosts when she opened the scoring in the 57th minute before Juliet Brima doubled the advantage 18 minutes later.

However, the Guineans left it late to fight back when Jessica Dacoasta pulled one back inside the additional time but her late effort was not enough to halt the hosts' victorious celebration.

Sierra Leone's Juliet Brima was voted the Woman of the Match after she inspired the hosts' first win, with her brilliant opener.

Meanwhile, the final round of matches earlier scheduled for Sunday, which will see hosts Sierra Leone slug it out with leaders Senegal, and Guinea battle with Guinea Bissau, has now been moved to Monday.
