Sudan - A comeback with big hopes

After their last appearance in 2012 when the Jediane Falcons reached the quarterfinals, they return to the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations after 10 years hiatus.

Repeating the 2012 feat will be a very good accomplishment for Sudan, who recently recruited national veteran coach Burhan Tia after a disappointing campaign in the FIFA Arab Cup.

With a squad almost fully composed of local talents, Sudan will kick the campaign with just maximum points in mind against Guinea Bissau.

What they said

Burhan Tia (Coach, Sudan)

I have many young players and we made many changes to the national team after the Arab Cup. This is the best for Sudan football. My players played for all Sudan youth teams, and they have the ambition to do well during the tournament.

Salah Nimr (Captain, Sudan)

We are ready and we have ambitions to reach an advanced stage. We will perform well and honor Sudanese football. It was good to return to the Africa Cup of Nations after a 10-years absence.

Guinea Bissau – Ambitious Djurtus

Since its first participation in 2017 edition, the Djurtus have made it three times in a row. This time, they are keen on surpassing the group stage for the first time after two early exits in Gabon and Egypt.

To do so, coach Baciro Cande trusted the likes of Moreirense defender Manconi Soriano Mané, Stade de Reims midfielder Moreto Cassama and experienced Frédéric Mendy.

Starting the campaign against Sudan, Guinea Bissau would like to get a boast before facing the likes of giants Egypt and Nigeria.

What they said

Baciro Cande (Coach, Guinea-Bissau)

We are well prepared, and we will represent our country with pride. We will face big teams who will give their best. In the opening match we will face Sudan and we have to win the match. Football has many surprises, and we strive to achieve another one.

Bura (Captain, Guinea-Bissau)

We are here to represent the people of Guinea-Bissau and we know it's a very tough group, but we will bring our skills. We came to Cameroon to present ourselves to the world.
