Cameroon coach vows to improve after shaky CHAN progress

Cameroon coach Martin Mpile says he will work to improve his side's performance in the last eight of the TOTAL African Nations Championship (CHAN).

The hosts reached the quarterfinals of the tournament after their uninspiring display in the 0-0 draw with Burkina Faso in Group A on Sunday.

Cameroon will face Group B winners DR Congo in the last eight of the tournament exclusively designed for home-based players.

The Indomitable Lions have been criticized for their lackluster showing during their match against the Stallions but coach Mpile insists they will improve their showing in their next match.

“Burkina Faso presented an excellent team, playing great football. Between playing well and not qualifying I would rather qualify for the next round than play well and be eliminated,” Mpile said.

“We had a lot of problems in the first half against the offensives of Burkina Faso. In the second half, we tried to manage the match and ensure the qualification.

“For the quarter-finals, we will prepare the match calmly and in the best conditions to look good.”

The Indomitable Lions will play Group B winners DR Congo at the Japoma Stadium in Douala on Saturday.
