From stadium to safari: Travelling media experience Kenya’s wild life at TotalEnergies CAF CHAN 2024

The Local Organising Committee (LOC) of the TotalEnergies CAF African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2024 gave accredited media a memorable day out on Sunday, 24 August — a chance to swap stadium seats for safari views and soak in some of Kenya’s best-known treasures at the Nairobi National Parks.

Instead of goals and tackles, travelling media representing the African continent were treated to Kenya’s incredible wildlife, all within touching distance of Nairobi.

It was a rare opportunity to step into nature right in the heart of the city — something few host nations can offer during a major football tournament.

Beyond the wildlife, media enjoyed a touch of Kenya’s famous hospitality and heritage. From learning about local traditions to interacting with guides, it was a reminder of the warmth and vibrancy that makes Kenya such a special destination.

For the travelling media, it was a refreshing pause from the non-stop action and a chance to recharge before diving back into the drama of the knockout rounds set to resume on Tuesday, 26 August.

Sunday’s visit to the Nairobi National Park adds to the countless tourist attractions that media have been able to enjoy in the capital city and surrounding areas — from cultural sites and bustling markets to breathtaking landscapes just a short drive away.

As the competition edges closer to crowning its champions on Saturday, 30 August in Nairobi, the day out will be remembered not just for the wildlife and culture, but for the simple reminder that football and community always go hand in hand.
