Guinea names 23-man squad as CHAN 2024 preparations intensify

Guinea have announced their final 23-man squad for the upcoming TotalEnergies African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2024, with experienced midfielder Ibrahima Sory Sankhon among the headline names included.
Coach Souleymane Camara unveiled the list on Friday, confirming a balanced squad that blends seasoned local players with emerging talent as Guinea look to better their semi-final run from the 2020 edition.
The players are currently undergoing a rigorous training regime in a military camp as part of the country’s intensified preparations for the tournament, which kicks off on 2 August 2025 across Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda.
The Syli National are drawn in Group C alongside Uganda, Niger, Algeria, and South Africa—arguably one of the most competitive pools in the competition.
Sankhon, who returned home in January and now plays for AS Kaloum, is expected to bring stability and leadership in midfield.
He is joined by Mohamed Madani Diarra (SAG Siguiri), Ousmane Dramé (Hafia FC), and Lansana Sylla (Horoya AC) in a central unit tasked with controlling play and dictating tempo.
The attacking line features familiar faces such as Gnagna Barry and Ismaël Camara of Horoya AC, supported by Moussa Moïse Camara (Wakriya AC), Bourhane Camara (RCC Kamsar), and Mohamed Lamine Youla (Renaissance FC), all aiming to provide the firepower Guinea will need to advance deep into the tournament.
The defensive unit boasts depth and physicality, with nine defenders named, including Kabinet Kouyaté (Hafia FC), Bangaly Cissé (ASM Sangarédi), and Mohamed Boké Camara (CI Kamsar). Coach Camara is counting on their cohesion to hold firm against elite opposition.
The goalkeeping duties will be shared between Ousmane Camara (Flamme Olympique), Mory Keïta (Hafia FC), and Mamadou Yéro Diallo (Renaissance FC), all of whom bring strong domestic form into the tournament.
Coach Camara’s side is expected to travel to East Africa in the coming days for the final phase of preparations, hopeful of making a statement on the continental stage.
