MATCH FACTS: Hosts Tanzania seek second Group B win against Mauritania

Published:

Tanzania will look to build on their opening-day victory when they face Mauritania in their second Group B match at the TotalEnergies CAF African Nations Championship (CHAN) PAMOJA 2024. This will be the first CHAN meeting between the two sides.

Mauritania have faced East African opposition twice before, losing 3-2 to Burundi in 2014 and 1-0 to Sudan in 2018. They also lost 4-0 to hosts Morocco in their only previous meeting with a tournament host.

This is Mauritania’s 11th CHAN match, with Tanzania becoming their 11th different opponent. Conversely, Tanzania are playing their eighth match at the finals, with Mauritania the seventh different team they have faced—and the fifth from West Africa.

Tanzania have played four previous CHAN games against West African opponents, winning two, drawing one, and losing one. Their wins came against Côte d’Ivoire in 2009 and Burkina Faso in this edition. They drew 2-2 with Guinea in 2020 and lost 1-0 to Senegal in 2009.
