Mrezigue dedicates TotalEnergies Man of the Match award to Algerians
Algerian midfielder Houssem Eddine Mrezigue has dedicated his TotalEnergies Man of the Match Award to the Algerian fans who have provided immense support for the Desert Foxes.
Mrezigue was pivotal and won the award on Tuesday as they breezed past Niger 5-0 to reach the final of TotalEnergies African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2022 in Oran.
The 22-year-old CR Belouizdad star was at his best controlling the tempo and momentum of the game to start Algeria’s attacks moving up the pitch and creating chances for the Desert Foxes against Niger in the first semi-final.
“We have been working on this offensive game and I am so glad that today, we have scored these many goals. I am proud of my team-mates, and I hope that we shall achieve even more and win the final,” Mrezigue said after he was presented with the prestigious award at the Miloud Hadefi Stadium in Oran.
Prior to this tie, Algeria had registered four 1-0 wins and were criticized by a section of fans who thought they were playing dangerously.
“We have only one game left to play now, and we shall do our best. As a team, we shall be ready physically and psychologically,” he added with determination.
The Desert Foxes will now return to Algiers to prepare for the final that will be played at the Nelson Mandela Stadium in Baraki – a suburb of Algiers against the winner between Senegal and Madagascar on February 4.
