Traveling teams enjoy away victories in TotalEnergies CAF CHAN 2024 qualifiers

The final round of qualifiers for the TotalEnergies CAF African Nations Championship 2024 (CHAN) is has seen the host nations becoming casualties in the first legs currently underway across the continent.

A total of five fixtures took place on Saturday, 21 December with all travelling teams, except for Congo securing victories on the road.

Lesotho played Angola in Durban, South Africa were the Antelopes secured a confidence boosting 2-0 victory away from home.

Equatorial Guinea faced a stern test when they took on Congo at home.

Despite enjoying a lion’s share of the possession, the hosts failed to capitalise on home ground advantage as both teams settled for a goalless stalemate.

A Southern African derby took place late Saturday afternoon as Chipolopolo took on Mozambique in a one-sided affair that saw the Zambians emerge 3-0 victors.

Eswatini will be disappointed with their performance at home when they were outclassed by a spirited Madagascar side who overcame them 2-0 in Mbabane.

Two-time champions, DR Congo showed great resilience when they held Chad to a 1-1 draw away from home.

The Leopards will be hoping to finish the job and home continue working towards reclaiming their title following their success in the inaugural edition back in 2009, as well as their memorable 2016 triumph in Rwanda.

The TotalEnergies CAF African Nations Championship qualifiers continue on Sunday with more exciting fixtures set to take place to conclude the first round of qualifiers.

The second and final round of qualifiers will take place between 25 – 29 December where the final 19 qualified nations, including the three hosts Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda will be decided.
