Yiech: “This match could have been decided by fine margins
Ethiopia’s midfielder Gatoch Panom Yiech believes a victory in their opening match of the TotalEnergies African Nations Championship was very much possible but their opponents defended really well.
After being awarded the Man of the Match accolade in their opening match of Group A against Mozambique, lamented his side¨^s profligacy.
Ethiopia played to a goalless draw against Mambas at the Nelson Mandela Stadium in Algiers on Saturday, 14 January in a game Yiech said that they will need to correct their mistakes ahead of their next match.
“We will really have to correct our mistakes. We are in a high level tournament. We cannot be indecisive when we are in the penalty area. We watched the game against Algeria and Libya, our next two opponents and we will need to do much better against them if we want to go any further” said Yiech.
On the upcoming match against Algeria, Yiech said: “We will approach it as a final. There is no room for error. Anything is possible in football.
¨If we going into the match thinking that we will lose, then we may as well pack our bags and go home. That is not what is on our minds. We are here to compete”, he concluded.
